Merck Manual Professional App Reviews

merck is the truth

When I first seen the price I was definitely hesitant but I decided to give it a tryy anyway and I do not regret it any bit. This is a must have app for ANYONE in the healthcare profession. The amount of information presented is astonishing and worth every penny. The random illness presented at the home screen is also a great touch. As a combat medic in the army I find this an extremely useful resource when my provider is not available and also a great study tool.

Great product, great price

Thank you Merck for making such a great textbook (a must for any healthcare professional) available for such a great price. I have been been greatly dissapointed w/ the Skyscape company, where my previously purchased Merck Manuel along w/ several other medical textbooks that I had purchased are now rendered inaccessable unless I choose to pay forever their "membership" fee.

Merck manuel

I find it most heplful and very informative.

Extensive information ALL on your iPhone/iTouch

My earlier review (below)was before the 1.1 update. This update is fantastic! The ability to easily jump to subsections within the articles was a much needed tool and really makes this a first rate app. I hope you update your screen shots to show this new feature. Also, the highlighting of search terms within articles makes it so much easier to find the information you want. Thank you so much for this well laid out and information packed app. Its a great value! I am an RN and find this to be a very user friendly interface with in-depth coverage of a variety of topics. It is well laid out and easy to search, offering you many ways to access and utilize the information. Its true there are no outline hyperlinks to sections within topics but they are planning on adding that and have told me "we do intend to make any updates we distribute free of charge." But even without that feature, it is still not difficult to find what you are looking for thanks to subject headers and good layout. There are also links within topics to other related topics and charts. Outline links will improve it, but it certainly is very functional and not difficult to navigate the way it is. Dont let that hold you back - especially since upgrades will be free. Unlike some competitors, this version of the Merck Manual completely resides on your iPhone/iTouch and requires no Internet access. To me this is a huge consideration. It means I can access the information anywhere, anytime. I also like the ability to email a link to a page, which allows you to email colleagues (or patients)the information on Mercks website. Great value and great app. Thanks!

Dont do it .

Just get the Skyscape for $ 49 . Agile wants to charge you for the entire app just to get display updates . No doubt they will do it again , and the 1.1 still will not display horizontally .

Great App, but please make iPad version

Very useful, easy to use, and contains everything the real book contains. An iPad version would be awesome instead of reading small or blurry text.

Excellent app

I am an infectious diseases physician and since my medical school days have always found the Merck Manual to be the best (and most concise) medical reference. In anticipation of a medical relief mission to Haiti last year, I downloaded Merck Manual because I wanted a full medical reference that would not require an internet connection once on my iPhone. This app proved invaluable the few times that I needed to read about some conditions (and treatments) that I was not familiar with and is an excellent general resource. Besides use for medical students, physicians in training, and other health care workers, I highly recommend it for anyone doing overseas relief work and needing an excellent medical reference.

Good with minor issues

Ive trusted the Merck Manual as a quick medical reference for 10 years. Another reviewer correctly pointed out that info under the heading AIDS is missing, but Ive been assured that an update is on the way. Outside of that, and issues with occasional crashing, this is a good and useful app.

Solid and worth the money

Solid app. Accessible and usable. True it isnt the 3000 pg Harrisons but nobody has an app like that. This is great for a solid review of topics - pathophys and etiology. I recommend.

Solid but..

It is a very good source of info but medical information is always updated and/or new diagnoses & this app needs to be updated as well.

Using it as a nursing student. IPad update is fantastic.

This is one of the few apps that looks beautiful on the iPad. I had it installed on my iPhone but didnt open it often during clinicals or school, just because I thought the navigation was impossible to deal with on a small screen (the scrolling over for charts, the tiny font, etc.) I ported it over when I bought an iPad, and now I open it up all the time. Its written more in book format, but I especially appreciate the navigation now -- its great, and very intuitive. I do wish there were more "interactive" features for the price (more drawings/images, sounds), so Im giving it 4 stars. But its great as a reference tool, and I recommend it.

eh!

There may be a lot of useful information in this app, but it is so horrible to navigate. The tables do not fit the screen. It is formatted for a book, not an app for your iphone! If you shrink it to microscopic, you may be able to seen "most" of the table (but you wont be able to read it due to the size). Additionally, the sections are listed along the tops of tables making it impossible to track which column refers to which section when you scroll to the middle or bottom of the table. For example: looking up amoxicillin dosing... a table comes up but you cannot tell which age group you are looking for without scrolling up and down the page slowly enough NOT to lose your place. FRUSTRATING! If you look for certain disease processes you will be referred to "articles." NOT what I expected at all for $35. I regret the purchase. If you want a truly useful app for your medical practice, get EPOCRATES, an app (subscription) I use every single day and will make sure I always have access to it.

Love this app

This app has been very helpful despite the price being rather steep for a student to justify. Tons of information available...

The Merck Manual/Search engine????

Well, what cant be said about the venerable Merck, handy, great memory jogger, weighs on the average about a third of most major medical text. The app works great except the search engine. I was reading about Erythem Migrans and following links from one article to the next. All of a sudden I needed to read about Stevens-Johnson Synd details. Typed it in, search report nothing found, well I must have mispeled (sp) it, copied and pasted into the search engine, reports nothing found??? Go to the derm section, peruse the BOLDED titles, sure enough there it is but the search engine couldnt find this major topic. Someone needs to either rework the search engine or change career fields. Maybe they could put a dictionary together to help me spel.

New update!!!

It lacks some information and illustrative schemes. For that price I could have had a better version than this.. Its not reliable to be used as a reference. Please, fix this. :(

Simply fantastic!

Thank you so much for this app. Great value for everyone involved in medicine

This app is great for physicians, medical students, or just curious people. It has a hefty price tag but its all worth it.
